About

The Slump Testis a social practice research project investigating the effects of online learning on Concordia Fine Arts students during the

COVID-19 pandemic. This name is adopted from the construction industry, where the cone is used as a mold to measure the consistency of concrete. Results are categorized by four outcomes: True, Zero, Collapsed, Shear. The cone becomes a visual metaphor exploring the ways students spread out, as their homes become all encompassing. Not just a measurement tool, the cone is re-contextualized domestically, as the home becomes a job site and daily life becomes something to approach with caution. By inviting participation, students share desk-self-portraits, answer survey questions and are interviewed. The work has no clear hypothesis and instead attempts to both represent and measure the aesthetic and emotional qualities of students’ current situations, working in isolation.

Bio

Christine White is completing her undergraduate degree in Fine Arts at Concordia University and currently in isolation. She majors in Intermedia with a minor in Sociology. Slump Test was supported by the VAV Research Residency program. She is currently an intern for the CARE project at Concordia. Selected by The Office of Rules and Norms, she takes part in the Shock Value Fellowship alongside collaborators. Her project PedalBox Gallery is an exhibition space on a bike trailer supported by the Concordia Sustainable Action Fund. It comes to life at IMCAfest and  features an array of sound art. PedalBox is in collaboration with the Pointe-Saint Charles Art School and CUCCR  where she distributes 'care packages'' of reuse materials this summer. PedalBox Gallery was selected for the Elspeth McConnell Fine Arts Award. Because collaboration is a unifying method throughout Christine's work, feel free to be in touch!

A warm thank-you to the VAV Gallery, fellow residents, IMCA 400 classmates, Monique Moumblow, Amy Yaldo,  Cristof Riffo and participants for their support
